Young Entrepreneur: Mallory Perales of Mallory’s Boutique

Young entrepreneur, Mallory Perales, age 14, has been in business making and selling unique, on-of-a-kind earrings. We asked her a few things about her business.

What’s your age, grade and what school do you attend?
I am 14 years old and am an 8th grader at Boerne Middle School North.

What do you do?
I am the owner of Mallory’s Boutique. I create earrings that are unique and one of a kind.

When did you start this?
I started my business in January 2021.

How did you get into jewelry?
I always knew that I wanted to have my own business, but I struggled with finding the right thing for me, something that interested me but at the same time could be manageable with school and all my other extra curricular activities. Both me and my mom love jewelry so we decided to do some research on how to make earrings.

I consider my self somewhat of a youtuber so being able to navigate and search was fun. I learned a lot about the process of making faux leather earrings. I made a list of supplies and got to work. Since then I have broadened my inventory to include various beaded hoop earrings, and resin earrings. I am also making themed holiday earrings.

What do you like most about your creations?
I first started selling my earrings to teachers at Fabra Elementary. My mom is a teacher there so she would take them to her school to sell. They were a huge hit. The thing I like most about my creations are that no two pairs of earrings are exactly alike.

What have you found to be the most challenging?
My greatest challenge would have to be time. I mentioned that I am an 8th grader but I am also very involved in my school. I am on the cross county team, dance/cheer team, tennis team, and track team. I also play the violin. My weeks are full of school type stuff. My mom makes me spend some time on the weekends making new earrings.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I see myself in college studying to be a marine biologist. I love animals and the ocean so this is my passion. I hope to still have my earring business as well.

What’s next for your business? Growth? Goals?
In the future I would love to get involved in market days or trade shows where I can reach more people and show them my creations. I have my first event coming up in December. I’m so excited! I would like to grow my business by creating matching sets of jewelry-I also want to learn how to custom make tumblers out of resin. I would love to be able open up an Etsy account and sell online. I’m not quite there yet.

How has the community supported you?
The community of Boerne has shown so much support for me and my business. From my very first customers at Fabra Elementary to the Boerne Trading Company who took a chance and allowed me to sell my earrings in their shop. I am truly thankful for the opportunity.
