Brayden Gardner

Young entrepreneur, Brayden Gardner, age 15, is in business of selling her personalized artwork. We asked her a few things about her business.

What’s your age, grade and what school do you attend?
I am 15 years old, in 10th grade and go to Boerne HS.

How did you get into your business?
A friend of the family asked me to paint them a picture in watercolor and then ended up paying me. After this I realized this could be a good way for me to make money and soon more and more people were asking me to paint all sorts of things from portraits to custom shoes.

How have your parents helped you?
Well, my parents are the ones that got me my watercolors in the first place so that was a huge help. My mom is also the one who advertises my business on Facebook so I guess this could have never happened without her. I thank them so much for all that they do for me.

What’s the biggest lesson you have learned in running your business?
I guess the biggest lesson I’ve learned while doing this is to not put too much on your plate. Especially for me with school and extracurricular activities if I take on a lot of projects at once I am unable to provide the best I can. Take your time and it’s okay to take a break every once in a while.

What are your future plans for your business?
Right now it’s to keep doing what I’m doing and hopefully continue to make people happy with my personalized artwork that my customers ask me to do for them.

After high school, what are your plans?
If I’m being completely honest I don’t know what exactly I’m gonna do after high school. I would love to have a career that includes art but sometimes plans don’t always work out the way you hoped. I want to let events play out and not to rush my path through life because this is the only chance I get.

What would you like to do for your career?
What I do know is I definitely want to continue to sell paintings whether it’s my main job or a hobby. I really enjoy art and want that to stay in my life. I hope to inspire others through what I make.

How has Kendall County supported you?
Advertising and referrals. Many people have recommended me to others and helped my business grow.
